Everybody knows her by the title 'Princess of Mysore'. I heard from my hubby she has visited 22 countries of her own and got wedded in the Mysore palace with the handsome Diwakar. My hubby was only worried if i will get influenced by her flamboyance and her non cooking activities, so he introduced me to her, 'meet the princess' to differentiate me from her Queensland world.
But i guess 'Ipsitha' bought me more close to her. That was her name. i never looked at her as a princess but as Ipi, an abbreviation i gave to her name. I was not hoping any good connection with her since we had a class and status difference. But hold hold she put me wrong. She came the next morning asking me to make a list for kitchen groceries. I was like what? why? Hadnt ani told me she doesnt enters the kitchen. I resist my curiousity to ask, might hurt her esteem. I did as she said and the list was all done. The same eve we walked to the nearby Krogers. To my surprise she went from one rack to other and one corridor to other just to find the half rated product but best quality. I was again again blessed. Had she been a spendthrift i wont have come to krogers with her for my remaining life. Dibo(she calls her hubby) arrived in an hour swiped the card and rode us back to The Landings apartment in his company car.
My first sunday in Cincinnati was even more a good day since we both didn't know cooking but had to make breakfast. She made poha i made aloo parantha. 'see if my parantha doesn't comes out good i will serve your poha to ani'
'vice versa'
A loud laugh.
Weeks came and went, kitchen got filled and refilled and cooking became a fun when we had our co operation and a great connection build up between us. She was very much like us, a genuine human, with zero flamboyance and total value for money.
The day arrived when i could not stop my curiousity, 'why do you have to cook? and save money?you are rich can eat outside every day'
'My father bought a car from London 50 yrs back but he never came to pick me up from school in his car instead walked me to my home everyday'
The words bounced over my head, 'pardon'
'he was trying to explain me the value of money'
Exactly the feeling that you are getting at the moment i get it too, i felt like saluting her dad.
'but why do you have to cook? i heard you both used to dine out'
'yeah cuz then i didnt had a fresher like you, so trying with u will be fun and u might get help', she winked. And of course any thing is a fun when there is no superior over you.
